The Color Guard of SAR is made up of individual members who decide to become part of their Chapter Color Guard. Usually a member will select a uniform similar to that worn by his primary patriot - the one used for his original SAR application. If he has proven multiple Patriots, he may choose another type of uniform. Uniforms are generally either Continental Army or state militia. Resources for buying handmade uniforms is provided in this section. Each chapter chooses a Commander. At the state level, the Commander is chosen by the state president or the board. All events involving a Color Guard begin as "chapter" events. If two or more chapters of a state are represented in the Color Guard at an event, it may be labelled a "state" level event. Similarly, if multiple states within a District are represented, the event may be labelled a "District" event. National Events are declared as such only by the National SAR Board.
