Past LASSAR Presidents and Officer History

"COL" William Houston Jack: Ally in the State Senate (1836 - 1912)

8559927

Although never a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, William Houston Jack left his mark on the Louisiana Society.  Born in Wilkes County, GA in 1836, he moved to Natchitoches, LA and began the practice of law with Judge David Pierson.  In 1863 he was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives and served as Chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

He was appointed Superintendent of Education in 1890.  It was on May 15, 1890 that Jack took to the floor of the Louisiana State Senate and called for the organization of the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.  For this reason, William Houston Jack will forever hold a special place in the hearts of the members of the Louisiana Society, Sons of the American Revolution.

Jack is buried in American Cemetery in Natchitoches, LA
